CY TWOMBLY 1928 -2011

Added on by suana verelst.

The death of the American painter Cy Twombly, at the age of 83, has ended one of the most distinguished artistic careers of the last half-century. Like a latter-day Ingres, he was an expatriate who lived in Italy, fascinated by the country's cultural heritage.Twombly's response to this stimulus was, however, anything but academic, as he expressed himself with a radical language of highly coloured stains and energetic brushwork. ROBOT : 4 IN 1...

Added on by suana verelst.

sometimes things work out just the way they do...

ever since the end of september, i wanted to go back to where i started with the project for the book of death, with the lady and the fish, well, here she is and a little more:
emma, a soft doll i created a few years back, became the character for the robot, albeit deconstructed. what i did not intend were the 3 other faces: a look-alike of anubis, a jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in egyptian mythology. [one year after i started participating with the book of death project!] and a robot serving eggs...
just in time to make the deadline for the troyart exhibition in brazil...
"emma, fish and would you like to have eggs with that ?" 2010

REKINDLING AN OLD FLAME...

Added on by suana verelst.

it seems like an enormously long time ago, but at one point in my life i was quite active painting and drawing portraits. yesterday was the first step again to un-rust that old flame. i forgot how much i loved drawing from life and with some regular practice i hope to get back into it ...
